I’d like to share with you my first Aha! This is Flow moment. In my early 20’s I moved to Banff, a beautiful ski town in the Canadian Rockies to learn how to snowboard.
I vividly remember my first morning going to the mountain. I woke up early grabbed a coffee, and made my way to the mountain bus. I arrived at the ski resort and confidently rode the first chairlift of the day, inhaling a deep breath of fresh mountain air and gracefully acknowledging how great I looked in my new gear.
That was until I immediately wiped out off the bunny hill chairlift.
This process repeated it’s self until I sheepishly rode the gondola to the base of the mountain at the end of the day. As I was sitting in my apre-ski hot tub at the local swimming pool feeling very defeated, I contemplated putting my newly acquired gear on craigslist. At that moment, I heard a voice deep within my psyche telling me to hang in their sport, and hang in there I did.
On day three of the same early morning, coffee-to-bus-to-mountain-wipe out routine, something absolutely magical occurred. My brain finally connected all the dots and I COULD SNOWBOARD!
The next thing I knew it was the end of the day. Time had flown.
I hadn’t stopped to eat. I hadn’t stopped to pee. I had no idea of the time. I had entered the perfect balance between challenge and skill. I was in #Flow.
Do you remember your first Flow experience?
I’d love to hear about it below 🙂
